With effect 20 September 2026 it will be mandatory that certain unregulated goods imported from China will be subject to a Certificate of Conforminty ( COC ) issued by the China Certificate and Inspection Group Co. Ltd.( CCIC).
It’s a programme that ensures certain products are checked for safety and quality before they are shipped to South Africa .
This programme is legally limited ( GG 7284 dated 20 March 2026 ) to products not currently subject to compulsory specification or regulatory oversight .It is designed to strengthen pre-import quality assurance .
The reason why China has been chosen is that it is South Africa’s largest import partner. The programme will be extended to other countries in due course .
A complete guideline regarding the concerned unregulated products and the procedure on how to apply for a COC is available below.
