Additional pledges for Chinese infrastructure development funding have been received after the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) region took its multi-billion-dollar infrastructure development plan to potential funders in China.

A report on the Southern African Research and Documentation Centre (SARDC) resource website noted that the SADC Regional Infrastructure Development Master Plan (RIDMP) had been presented to Chinese investors at the SADC-China Infrastructure Investment Seminar held in Beijing late last month.

Funding was pledged for priority transport projects to be implemented by 2017. This includes those targeting the expansion, rehabilitation and modernisation of Durban and Walvis Bay ports; new road links connecting Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC); and the introduction of a one-stop border post at Beitbridge between South Africa and Zimbabwe.
